One School, One Book at Oak Grove-Bellemeade!

Read to Them celebrates four years of One School, One Book at Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary School!

In 2014, reading teacher Jessica Carpenter first brought One School, One Book to Oak Grove-Bellemeade in Richmond, Virginia. Since their first year, students, teachers, staff, and families have read 11 books together! This is no small achievement, Read to Them salutes Mrs. Carpenter’s dedication and commitment to the program in her community.

In the videos below, students explain why they enjoyed reading the Humphrey books, their words exemplify all that One School, One Book can be. The videos showcase the wonderful impact that reading as a community offers – and are well worth the watch!

The students at Oak Grove-Bellemeade reinforce the importance of reading together through their individual love for Humphrey!

“Humphrey is a hamster that likes to explore!”

“It was fun to read as a school because it was cool to see who remembered what from the book.”

This year, Oak Grove-Bellemeade will continue their tradition of reading together with Ellray Jakes is a Rock Star!; Summer According to Humphrey; and No Talking.

The school’s kickoff event for The Lemonade War was featured in Richmond Family Magazine, you can read all about it here!
