It’s a good thing humans have dogs to keep them safe from squirrels.”
And it’s a good thing we have more Fenway! Fenway and the Bone Thieves is the first in an introductory chapter book series by Victoria J. Coe, author of the popular Read to Them title, Fenway and Hattie.
It’s a new series, but same old Fenway – getting into and out of mischief while endlessly charming both readers and listeners.
With Fenway and the Bone Thieves, families will root for Fenway in his war against the squirrels. This time, it’s all because of a coveted bone and Fenway’s attempts to keep those sneaky squirrels from stealing it.
“I spin around, and I can hardly believe my eyes. A bigger squirrel is about to pounce on my bone.”
Trouble continues once Fenway buries his bone in Food Lady’s off-limits vegetable garden (“the Best Idea Ever!”)… and then promptly forgets where he hid it.
Poor Fenway! All he wants is to keep Hattie (his favorite short human) safe from the squirrels and enjoy the pleasures of a fresh new bone. After a day of searching for it, the yard is full of muddy holes, the squirrels are mocking him with their CHIPPER-CHATTER-SQUAWK!, and Hattie “smells mad.”
Will Fenway ever find his bone? And will he be able to rid the Dog Park of those pesky squirrels once and for all? Most importantly – will he get back in Hattie’s good graces?
Fenway and the Bone Thieves is sure to delight families with its fast-paced plot and endearing illustrations. And though the book is full of frolicking fun, it’s also a great way for families to explore important ideas like taking care of others in the best ways we know possible.
As Fenway tells us from the beginning, “Dogs make humans happy.”
And good read-aloud books do, too.
